Gambler Behar Merlaku recently got a shock when his £37million fruit machine win was stripped from him by casino officials who claimed there was a “software error”. The 26-year-old was instead asked to accept £60 and a meal voucher from the Austrian casino or leave the premises.
Refusing to accept the consolation prize, Merlaku is taking his case to the courts and will be demanding every penny of his £37million win. The casino, on the other hand, is blaming the malfunction on the software developers and will be pointing to a local law which says that winnings can’t top £1.7m. They also claim that a casino employee accidentally manipulated the jackpot.
There’s evidence that the investigation into the incident hasn’t been as organised as in some more well-regulated regions like the UK and USA but the outcome of this case, which commences on 10th of January, is still entirely up in the air. There’s no doubt, however, that the casino and its software developer will be preparing for a lengthy legal battle.
